Winter house

Do you have a home remodeling project you’re itching to get started on? Maybe your bathroom is outdated or your kitchen needs an overhaul. In fact, entertaining and cooking for guests during winter holidays often highlights the need for home remodels, whether it’s creating more space or giving a room a more functional layout.

So why wait? Did you know that most winter renovations are faster and more efficient than summer projects? Here’s why winter is a great time to remodel.

Faster Remodels

Summer remodels can be difficult to schedule when your contractor is already booked. This can get even more complicated if you also have summer vacation plans. Plus, before you even begin the design and remodeling process, you’ll also need to set up a consultation with your remodeling company.

Spring and summer are the most popular months for remodeling, so winter is a slow season for most designers and contractors. When our schedules are less busy, we’re more likely to be able to begin working on your project right away.

Winter is also usually a better time to obtain any permits you need for your project. Local government offices tend to approve permits faster in the winter because they are less busy.

Easier Shopping

The mall might be a nightmare, but home improvement retailers typically see their strongest sales numbers between April and July, right around the summer remodeling season. In winter, the appliances, fixtures, and other home products you want are less likely to be out of stock. This gives you and your designer more time to shop around (in person or online) and find products you truly love for your home.

Browsing at physical stores is also much more relaxing when they’re less crowded. You have plenty of time and space to examine different options, and salespeople tend to be more available to answer your questions.

Winter Remodeling Is Safer than Ever

One reason many homeowners like to remodel during warmer months is to make sure dust and fumes don’t fill the house during a winter remodel. They worry that cold weather will prevent them from being able to air out the house with open windows.

This was a real concern in the past, but newer technology allows us to safely contain and control any fumes and dust we create without having to open windows and turn your home into an icebox. You’ll be able to stay warm, comfortable, and healthy throughout the remodeling process.

Winter Remodeling Ideas

You might be surprised how many projects (even exterior ones) are winter approved. Most remodeling projects can almost always be safely completed in winter. Here are some ideas:

  • Create more kitchen counter space. (Cooking during the holidays will be a breeze next year!)
  • Revamp your bathroom with heated floors to keep your feet warm when it’s cold.
  • Spruce up your living space with a new fireplace that your family will love to gather around.
  • Clutter often accumulates during winter, so why not build more storage space with a walk-in pantry and more cabinetry?

Winter Kitchen

If you want to work with a designer to plan your new space, winter is the perfect season for it, since designers are often less scheduled out then too. At Square Deal Remodeling we use an all-inclusive design/build remodeling process that encompasses designing, planning, and construction. We do it all, which means we dedicate a lot of time to each project — especially big projects — so winter is a great time to work with us!
