The Square Deal Story

In 1992, James Kreipe launched Square Deal Remodeling with the intention of improving the remodeling experience for Portland homeowners. Having worked as a cabinet maker as well as a project manager for a local remodeling company, he witnessed the challenges people faced acting as their own general contractor and believed there was a better, smoother way to meet their goals.

Adopting the design-build method, Jim passionately built a company centered on integrity, collaboration, efficiency, excellence, and problem-solving. Thirty-plus years later, under the direction of Jim’s son, Chris, that tradition continues.

We are Certified Remodelers (NARI) and staff Certified Kitchen and Bathroom designers (NKBA). Square Deal is fully licensed and bonded to work in both Oregon and Washington state.

Chris Kreipe CMKBD, CR, OWNER

Chris Kreipe has been around residential remodeling most of his life. Born and raised in southeast Portland, his father, Jim, the founder of Square Deal, was constantly renovating their family home, inspiring Chris’ career path toward architecture and remodeling.

After graduating from Portland State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture, Chris obtained his certification as a Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer from the National Kitchen and Bath Association, as well as a Certified Remodeler through the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.  Working his way up over the years from project assistant to the owner of Square Deal, he proudly leads the business with the same enthusiasm and conviction as his father. He is an active member of NARI Pacific NW and regularly volunteers his time and skills to ReFit, a local ADA Home Improvement nonprofit.
